The CASCAPE project started in 2010 with a budget of 2 million Euro. Already after one year it became clear that expectations from the donor (Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands), the AGP programme and the Ministry of Agriculture in Ethiopia were very high and expansion of the project was foreseen. At the end of 2012 a new contract was signed with a total budget of 12.5 million Euro for the entire 2010 - 2015 period. In the expanded project the themes gender, nutrition, and to a lesser extent also water management were included. The Sesame Business Network, seen as an innovative approach to strengthen the sesame value chain in the northwest of Ethiopia, was also put under the umbrella of CASCAPE and has a budget of almost 2 million Euro. Addis Ababa University has been added as an additional partner in 2012. The project now covers 5 woredas in each of the 6 regions; 4 kebeles per woreda, making a total of 120 kebeles.

CASCAPE is funded by the embassy of the Kingdom of The Netherlands in Ethiopia, with in kind co-funding of the participating Ethiopian universities.
